Maryland

Previously, I thought that New England and Pennsylvania were the only colonies founded on religious bases. However, Maryland was founded for similar reasons as New England. However, it was founded for Catholics, rather than Puritans. However, Catholics remained a minority, and the Calverts had to pass a religious toleration act. Predictibly, this act did little, and there was even a short civil war where the government was unseated and replaced by a Protestant government.
