Quakers

The Quakers were an interesting group of people. They were radical protestants, yet openly practiced religious toleration. They were even civil to the natives, buying land from them rather than taking it by force. This, though unusual, led to a large influx of groups of people into Pennsylvania that had previously been excluded everywhere else, including Germans, Dutch, Scots, and minority religious groups. This state was also the first group to advocate for the abolishment of slavery, which was a very uncommon viewpoint in that time period.
